?The Mate War? is a documentary about an ethnic craft of extracting the mate herb carried out by the cabocla population in the west of Santa Catarina. Expelled from their lands, the caboclos were pushed into areas no longer needed by the Italian, German and Gaucho colonists of European descent, who determined the place they belong in the social space - the Mate harvest, because "they only know how to do this".
